St Louis Rams: What's Next

That is the question that I constantly keep asking myself. As we all know by now, Scott Linehan was fired on Monday. Well, that's good, that's what all of the Rams fan's wanted. But now what? A head coach change will help out the team, considering under Linehan the Rams went with an overall 11-25 record. I know it might be confusing on how he can get a team to 8-8, and then the next year a 3-13. You have to look at who was calling the plays that first year. Linehan had passed the play calling over to offensive coordinator Greg Olson.  We now have to look forward, and progress with what we've got. We're all hoping that Jim Haslett does a good job until a new head coach is found. He has already put Marc Bulger back in as the starting quarterback, so there's a silver somewhere in there.

Besides the overall record of the Rams under Linehan, what irritated me the most was Linehan's last game against the Bills. First, the obvious, he benched Marc Bluger only to replace him with Trent Green. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that Green faired pretty well in the beginning of the game, but he really started showing why he's a second stringer late in the game. Secondly, where was all of this will to win when Linehan's job wasn't on the chopping block? If he would have been doing some of the things that he did for this game all along, he might still have a job. As much as it sucked that we got blown away in the second half, I seen some dazzling plays that worked really well. If Linehan would have won that game, would he still have a job? I'd like to believe not, for the simple fact that we would never see that side of Linehan again, or even worse, we might never have seen Bulger on the starting line up again.

Besides Scott Linehan being laid off, the Rams still have a lot of work to do. Inspiration from a head coach help, yes, but overall talent from players is still needed. One example of what the Rams need some major work on is their offensive line.  They can't just put Orlando Pace out there and hope that he can block for everyone. When I watch a Rams game, I cringe every time the ball is snapped. I know that either someone is going to sack Bulger, or get really close to doing it. You know it's bad when five lineman can't block three defensive players. With a weak offensive line, there is also no one that Steven Jackson is going to be able to break through that line like a lot of us are hoping he will. It's impossible.

All I'm saying is that it will be interesting to see what the Rams are going to do on their BYE week. Maybe pick up some new players, a new head coach. We'll all just have to wait and see. I'll keep everyone posted.
